FM Official Anticipates Positive Prospect For Tehran-Cairo Ties

Tehran, July 30, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the red line for Americans in Egypt is the Zionist regime because the US is seriously concerned that any move in Egypt could affect the peace process. Talking to IRNA, he said that the US favored a non-Islamic figure to take the rule in Egypt but then realized that it could not mislead the popular movement in the country. He stressed that the wave of Islamic awakening in the region is such that it wipes the Zionist regime aside farther and farther everyday. Forecasting a positive prospect for Tehran-Cairo relations, the official said promoting ties between the two countries has been already on the agenda of his ministry. Stressing that the future of Egypt is undoubtedly very important for Americans in terms of their interests in the region, he reiterated that Washington is a big loser in Egypt. As for ties between the new Egypt and Palestine, the diplomat said the situation in Gaza will certainly change because there will be no more attempts like the ones by the ousted President Hosni Mubarak to help crack down people in Gaza and Palestine. He said real changes will happen with regards to situation in Gaza and Palestine because Egypt could no longer afford to neglect the rights of Palestinians./end
