Foreign Minister delivers speech at Women Parliamentarians forum
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Foreign Minister L.Bold delivered a speech at the North East Asia Women Parliamentarians Forum on Sunday.
Mr Bold expressed a satisfaction with a support this action has been receiving from all the countries of the region, as well as from the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
One of our foreign policy priorities is to create conditions for cooperating in peace and progress among the Northeast Asian countries and for establishing a concrete cooperative mechanism, he noted.
If the countries conduct dialogue and cooperate in the common issues and interests, "we all will be able to assist each other, and our joint efforts will create greater possibility to contribute to the development".
All the six countries of Northeast Asia are working for strengthening peace and promoting progress. The United Nations General Assembly in its 2012 resolution sponsored by Mongolia and titled "Education for Democracy" has recognized the great importance of education in strengthening of the democratic institutions, realizing human rights, achieving developmental goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, developing human capacity, reducing poverty and deepening mutual understanding among people, the Minister said.
That is why today’s consideration of the issues through education is a very timely event, he stressed.
Then he talked about the restoration of the World Women’s conference. “In the 20 years since the Fourth World Women’s conference ran in Beijing, the role and responsibility of women in strengthening peace and accelerating development has increased enormously. The number of women MPs have also constantly been increasing. Since 1995, Beijing has developed and changed beyond recognition, but the issues that had been discussed there are still awaiting a comprehensive solution, he said. That is why Mongolia supports the initiative of Mr Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, on convening the Fifth World Women’s conference in 2015, the FM said.
Ending his speech, he thanked the Mongolian women MPs for their initiative and the guests--for attending the forum.
