Foreign ministers of CIS countries hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will return to peace process

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia have stated their positions at the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of CIS member countries on the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, chairman of CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev said on Friday. "The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan stated their positions, other ministers stated their positions as well. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov informed about results of his trip to Baku," Lebedev said. "We expressed satisfaction with cessation of hostilities. We are all deeply concerned over deteriorating situation. Everyone expressed hope that the sides will return to peaceful dialogue with the aim of resolving this problem," he added. He also noted that the issue was discussed in a calm and constructive atmosphere. On Saturday, April 2, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh rapidly deteriorated when the parties to the Karabakh conflict accused each other of violating truce along the front line. The claims came from defense authorities of Armenia and of Azerbaijan. The defense ministries of Armenia and Azerbaijan announce cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh starting from 11am on April 5. Read more
