Germany Names New Envoy To Iran: Report

Berlin, July 6, IRNA -- Germany has named a new ambassador to Iran to succeed Bernd Erbel, local news reports said here Friday. Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg will be Germanyˈs top diplomat in Tehran, according to the Berlin-based monthly NUMOV trade magazine which is also closely affiliated to the German foreign ministry. Having entered the German Foreign Ministry in 1982, Freiherr von Ungern-Sternbergˈs most recent post was head of the directorate-general for the United Nations and Global Issues at the foreign ministry in Berlin. Between 2002 and 2007, Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg was stationed at Germanyˈs UN mission in New York. Before that, the diplomat was the head of the European Union enlargement division at the foreign ministry. Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg was also based at German embassies in Morocco and Russia./end
