IFRC says ready to help free Iranian aid workers abducted in Libya

TEHRAN,Aug.7(MNA) – The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies announced its readiness to help obtain the release of the Iranian aid workers recently abducted in Libya. According to the federation, on July 31 at one o’clock in the morning, a group of armed people kidnapped a seven member delegation from the Iranian Red Crescent while they were leaving the headquarters of the Libyan Red Crescent in Banghazi. The delegation was on its way to the Tibesti hotel where the delegation was staying. The delegation was being transported to the hotel in a car of the Libyan Red Crescent driven by a volunteer. The delegation was asked to step out of the car and they were taken to the cars of a group of armed people and to an unknown place. The Libyan Red Crescent has strongly requested the group that kidnapped the delegation to free them, in recognition of the efforts of the Iranian Red Crescent during the February 17 revolution and to continue to have good relationships with all organizations and National Societies, especially those that supported the Libyan Red Crescent. Iran has said that it is seriously pursuing the fate of the abductees.
