Iran’s strategy toward Palestine will remain unchanged: Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN,Feb.7(MNA) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met acting Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo on the sidelines of the Organization of Islamic Conference summit on Wednesday and reiterated Iran’s support for the Muslim country. Ahmadinejad emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran will defend the rights of the Palestinian people at all international organizations, insisting that this strategy will not change. He also underlined the need for unity among all Palestinian groups and said that as Israel has become very weak at present, a bright future will await Palestinians if they remain adamant in their resistance struggle. Commenting on the fact that the UN upgraded the Palestinian status by granting it non-member statehood in November 2012, Ahmadinejad said it was a step forward for the Arab country. He also added that the UN move has created a better opportunity to pursue the rights of the Palestinian people. Abbas hailed Iran’s support for his country and said, “The Iranian brothers have stood by the oppressed Palestinian people under all circumstances and the Palestinian nation appreciates this help.” The Palestinian president commented on the negative views of a number of Western and Arab countries toward the UN’s vote, saying, “What we have gained recently is a great achievement.”
