Iran’s Supreme Court upholds death sentences for four convicts in $2.6 billion fraud case

TEHRAN,Feb.18(MNA) – Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentences of four individuals convicted of involvement in a $2.6 billion financial fraud case, the office of the national prosecutor general announced on Sunday.
According to Iran’s Supreme Court, the four convicts, who have been sentenced to death, have also been ordered to pay fines.
In addition, the manager of the Kish branch of Bank Melli Iran has received a life sentence and has been ordered to pay fines.
And two former deputy ministers and two managing directors at the Transportation Ministry have been dismissed from their posts and have been sentenced to ten years in prison and lashes.
They have also been ordered to pay fines and return the assets acquired through the fraud.
The most massive fraud case in the history of Iran triggered a wave of resignations and dismissals of banking officials.
The Arya Investment Company is at the center of the controversy.
