Iran condemns bombings in Pakistan

TEHRAN,Jan.13(MNA) - Iran has strongly condemned the Thursday bombings in Pakistan in which at least 100 people were killed in one of the country's bloodiest days in recent years. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast expressed sympathy with the families of victims and the injured people. Undoubtedly, Mehmanparast said the main purpose of the organized plots is to “flaming the sectarian conflicts among Pakistani people, particularly between the Shia and Sunni.” Mehmanparast also called for an international condemnation of such criminal acts and said all countries and international organizations are required to cooperate towards the eradication of the “ominous phenomenon of terrorism.” On Thursday evening, two coordinated explosions killed at least 69 people and injured more than 100 in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, Reuters reported. The first attacks happened in a predominately Shia neighborhood in a crowded snooker hall. The banned Sunni group Lashkar-e-Jangvi claimed responsibility for the attack. In another incident on Thursday, 21 were killed and more than 60 injured in a bombing when people gathered to hear a religious leader speak in Mingora, the largest city in the northwestern province of Swat. No one claimed responsibility for that bombing. Swat has been under army rule since a military offensive ejected Pakistani Taliban militants in 2009.
