Iran dismisses Saudi spy allegations

TEHRAN,April 6(MNA) – Iran has strongly denied Saudi Arabia’s allegations on having links with a spy cell and summoned the Saudi charge d'affaires to Tehran for explanation. Saudi Arabia on March 19 had claimed that it had arrested 18 people, including one Iranian national, a Lebanese citizen and 16 Saudis for spying for a foreign country, Reuters reported. A spokesman for Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry had said that the alleged spies were “collecting information, vital information about a number of installations” but did not specify what these were, according to Reuters. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said no Iranian national was involved in the spy cell and called such allegations as “baseless, repetitive scenario”. “Raising such baseless issues at the media level is merely for domestic consumption,” he added.
