Iran intends to keep its civilian nuclear program: Iranian ambassador

TEHRAN, May 26 (MNA) - The Iranian ambassador to France, Ali Ahani, said in Paris on Tuesday that Tehran intends to keep its civilian nuclear program, the Wall Street Journal reported. “We have to continue” the enrichment needed for the country’s civilian nuclear program, Ahani said. “But we’re not seeking anything beyond that,” he added. He stated that Iranians want to continue with low-level enrichment activities, but that it would depend on assurances of receiving more highly enriched fuel from other countries. The main bone of contention between Tehran and the West is Iran’s uranium enrichment program. Iran says all its nuclear activities are totally peaceful, and, as an International Atomic Energy Agency member and a nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty signatory, it has the legal right to produce nuclear fuel for its research reactors and nuclear power plants.
