Iran keen to reach mutual understanding with six powers: Ahmadinejad

TEHRAN,June 23(MNA) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the Islamic Republic is keen to come to a mutual understanding with the six major powers in the process of talks over its nuclear program.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks during a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which opened on June 20 and closed on June 22.
Commenting on the latest round of talks between Iran and the major powers, the president said that Iran’s nuclear activities have been within the framework of international regulations and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, adding that the Islamic Republic has always adhered to its international commitments.
He also said that Iran has never been in pursuit of nuclear weapons and has always been seeking to promote friendship between the nations and governments.
“Arrogant and hegemonistic (powers) should stop showing hostility toward the Iranian nation and other justice-seeking and freedom-seeking nations because given the current situation in the world, cooperation between nations is much better that creating hostility and division,” he said.
In addition, he said that negotiations with Iran will be a suitable opportunity for the West to “return to the framework of law.”
The UN chief also said that Iran has always been an influential country in the region and played key roles on the world stage.
