Iran-Oman fourth meeting on marine border demarcation kicks off
ISFAHAN, July 9 (MNA) – On Sunday, Iran and Oman kicked off their fourth meeting in Isfahan on demarcating marine border, the head of the representative office of the Foreign Ministry in Isfahan announced on Sunday.
Hassan Nourian told reporters that the demarcation of marine borders between Iran and Oman is highly important as the strategic Strait of Hormuz lies between the two countries.
At its narrowest point, the Strait of Hormuz is 21 miles wide, with a two-mile shipping lane on either side. Iran controls the north and the south is controlled by Oman.
Nourian said the Omani panel consists of 10 people.
He added the Iranian panel is headed by Alireza Jahangiri, the Foreign Ministry director for legal and international affairs.
On why the meeting has been held in Isfahan, Nourian said the proposal to hold meetings in other cities other than Tehran was raised by Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in order to “introduce the Islamic Republic of Iran’s capacities to other countries.”
