Iran praises Syrian government’s resistance against terrorists

TEHRAN,Jan.17(MNA) – The plots hatched by the Zionist regime and its allies should be foiled through supporting the Syrian resistance, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili said on Tuesday. Jalili made the remarks during a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi who arrived in Tehran on the same day at the head of a high-ranking delegation to hold talks with Iranian officials. The Iranian official also praised the Syrian government for putting up resistance against terrorists and said, “This resistance is rooted in strong resistance put up by Syria over the past few decades.” “The logic of the West and the countries that support terrorist groups in Syria runs counter to international norms and is not defensible,” the top Iranian security official noted. Elsewhere in his remarks, Jalili said that terrorists destroy public facilities, industrial infrastructure, pipelines, and power lines in order to deal a blow to the Syrian nation. For his part, Halqi said that terrorists have targeted the country’s infrastructure in disregard of humanitarian laws in order to pressure the Syrian people to oppose the government. The pressure being exerted by the Zionist regime and the West on Syria is meant to take revenge on the Syrian people for supporting the resistance movement, the prime minister added. Iran hopes plots against Syria will come to an end In a separate meeting with Halqi on Wednesday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed hope that plots and malicious moves against the great Syrian nation would come to an end and calm and security would be restored in the crisis-hit country. He also said that the only solution to the Syrian crisis is to put an end to violence, engage in national dialogue, and hold an election. In addition, Ahmadinejad said that increased cooperation between Iran and Syria will benefit the two countries and regional nations. The Syrian prime minister also said that the hegemonistic powers have united to exert economic pressure on Syria, but the Syrian nation will stand up to them with all their strength. He also said that Syria is pleased with and proud of the Iranian nation’s achievements on the international stage.
