Iran President Appoints Advisor To Chair NAM Secretariat

Tehran, Dec 2, IRNA -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday appointed his advisor Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei to chair secretariat of Non-Aligned Movement. President Ahmadinejad said that the 16th NAM Summit in Tehran has well focused on the necessity of active role of NAM in the international community. The 120-nation NAM is the major international organization after the United Nations calling for a share in administration of the international community. The NAM Summit of Leaders in Tehran said that the United Nations Security Council is defunct relic of the World War II, lacking legitimacy to govern the international community. They called for restructuring the Security Council to stop violation of human rights of the world nations suffering from unjust power structure of the main decision making body. They blamed lack of balance created by veto rights certain countries enjoy and said that the other power blocs citing NAM must enjoy veto rights to form a balanced governance for the international community./end
