Iran reiterates opposition to imposed solution to Syria crisis

TEHRAN,June 20(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi renewed Tehran’s opposition to any foreign-imposed solution to the conflict in Syria, saying that the Islamic Republic prefers the solution to be Syrian. “Iran stands by the Syrian solution and rejects any solution imposed on Syria by outsiders,” Salehi told al-Mayadeen TV Channel on Monday evening, SANA reported. He said that Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi’s decision to sever relations with Syria, to close the Syrian embassy in Egypt, and to withdraw the Egyptian charge d’affaires from Syria would negatively affect the forthcoming international conference on Syria. “Egypt can play a major and important role compared to the others in resolving the crisis in Syria, and we hope the Egyptian officials reconsider this decision.” Salehi added that the U.S. decision to arm the Syrian opposition would help terrorist groups to restore control on the ground after the defeats they experienced at the hands of the Syrian army. The Zionist regime and the West are behind the killing of innocent people in Syria and the destruction of infrastructure in the country, the top diplomat pointed out. Salehi said that Iran plays a major role in the region and there would be no solution for any issue without it, affirming his country’s continued support to the resistance movements against the Zionist regime. Salehi added that Iran’s openness to world countries, particularly Western ones, does not mean surrender but establishing good and balanced relations, asserting that Iran does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country as it wants the best relations with all countries of the region.
