Iran rejects claim of involvement in 2006 bombing in Iraq

TEHRAN,July 2(MNA) – Iran rejected the claim recently made by a former commander of U.S. forces in Iraq that Iran was involved in the bombing of two Shia shrines in the Iraqi city of Samarra in 2006. Addressing an audience in Paris on June 22, General George Casey accused Iran of being involved in the bombing of Al-Askari shrines in Samarra, according to Press TV. He also claimed that Iran is using terrorism as a means to achieve its goals in Iraq, accusing Tehran of killing thousands of people in the Arab country. In a press release published on Monday, the Iranian Embassy in Iraq said that it “regards the remarks attributed to General George Casey about the involvement of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the bombing of Al-Askari shrines as a diversionary move and a false allegation against others with the aim of clearing themselves of their improper actions and rejects this accusation.”
