Iran releases two Azerbaijani nationals

TEHRAN,Sept.6(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Tuesday that Iran has released two Azerbaijani nationals, who had been in prison since May on charges of spying. Mehmanparast said the reason behind their release was that during the recent meetings between high-ranking Iranian and Azerbaijani officials, the Azeri side requested the release of the two prisoners. He went on to say that on Tuesday the two prisoners were freed on the grounds of Islamic clemency and fraternal relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. In July, Iran announced that it had arrested Shahryar Hajizadeh and Farid Husseinov over their links to Azerbaijan’s secret service.
