Iran says Israeli officials’ remarks on 5+1 talks are of no account

TEHRAN,July 4(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Israeli officials’ remarks about nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers are of no account. Ramin Mehmanparast made the remarks during his regular press briefing in Tehran on Tuesday in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday, “Iran is showing contempt for the whole world, and plans to enrich beyond 20 percent.” Netanyahu also stated that the recent rounds of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) over the country’s nuclear program lacked real results. Mehmanparast said, “Their (the Zionists’) remarks are not worth paying attention to and considering. This (the Zionist regime) is an illegitimate regime. It has taken various actions with the aim of creating tension in the region and has committed many atrocities. They make such remarks just to say that they are alive now that they are experiencing a desperate situation due to the issue of Islamic Awakening. In our policies and in the negotiations that we have with the 5+1 countries, we have not attached and will not attach any value to the Zionist regime and its statements.” “What is important to us is to fully defend our nuclear rights while fully complying with the Non-Proliferation Treaty,” he added. Foreign Ministry will respect Majlis decision on Strait of Hormuz Mehmanparast was also asked about the Foreign Ministry’s view on the proposal that the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee put forward on Sunday, which calls for the strategic Strait of Hormuz to be blocked to prevent the passage of tankers that carry oil for the countries that have imposed sanctions on Iran. The proposal was put forward in response to the European Union’s oil embargo on Iran that took effect on July 1 and a new U.S. law that penalizes countries that do business with the Central Bank of Iran by denying their banks access to the United States market. The law came into force on June 28. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “The recent decision by the European Union and the United States to impose new sanctions on Iran threatens energy security and will disturb the balance of the energy market. We have already announced that the security of (energy) supplies is an integral part of the security of the energy market.” He added that MPs are representatives of the people and the Foreign Ministry will respect whatever decision they make about the Strait of Hormuz. Mehmanparast also said that the Western powers are totally mistaken if they think that they can compel the Iranian nation to relinquish their rights, adding that this false assumption negatively affects the negotiations. Iran opposes imposing a solution on Syria from outside Mehmanparast also replied to a question about the fact that it was agreed during a meeting of the Action Group on Syria in Geneva on Saturday that a transitional government be established in the crisis-hit Arab country. He noted, “Any solution imposed from outside without taking into consideration the internal situation of Syria and without the participation of the main parties in Syria will definitely not be successful.” On Iran’s exclusion from the meeting, Mehmanparast said that ignoring influential roles of certain countries in regional equations will not help resolve the situation.
