Iran sees no obstacle to resuming ties with Egypt: Iran`s Velayati

TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) – The director of the Permanent Secretariat of the World Assembly of the Islamic Awakening said that the future of Tehran-Cairo ties depends on the two countries’ decision, but as far as Iran is concerned, it sees no obstacle to restore relations with Egypt. Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks during a meeting with a number of Egyptian academics and students majoring in Persian language in Tehran on Tuesday. Commenting on the cultural and political affinities shared by Iran and Egypt, Velayati expressed hope that the presence of the Egyptian scholars would deepen cultural relations between the two countries. Velayati, a former foreign minister, also said Egypt will succeed to restore its position as a major power in the Muslim world. In today’s world, the need to Islamic unity is more urgent than ever, he said, adding that Muslim countries should have close relationship to be able to fulfill their common objectives and stand up for Muslims’ rights.
