Iran, Turkmenistan sign deal on drug fight

TEHRAN, May 13 (MNA) – In a meeting in Ashkhabad late on Friday, officials from the Islamic Republic and Turkmenistan signed a cooperation agreement on campaign against illicit drugs. The agreement was inked by deputy director of the Iranian drug control center Taha Taheri and his Turkmen counterpart Aman Qarayev. The meeting was also attended by Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. The 14-article agreement will foster Tehran-Ashkhabad cooperation on the regional and international stages to step up a campaign against illicit drugs. Mohammad-Najjar, at the head of a high-ranking delegation, traveled to Ashkhabad on Thursday to participate in an international ministerial conference on “Refugees in the Muslim World” which opened on May 11 and closed on May 12. The conference was co-organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and focused on the Middle East region.
