Iran voices concern over violent suppression of Bahraini protesters

TEHRAN, April 24 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast expressed deep concern over the violent suppression of the Bahraini people who staged peaceful protests during the past week to denounce the Arab state hosting a Formula One Grand Prix. “The continuation and intensification of protests in various parts of Bahrain illustrate their will to see their legitimate demands fulfilled, and undoubtedly violent suppression of peaceful protests, which led to the death and injury of a number of people in the country, is a strategic mistake, which should be rectified,” Mehmanparast said on Monday. The Islamic Republic believes that to resolve the Bahrain crisis, serious attention must be paid to the Bahraini people’s demands, the repression of the protesters must be halted, and foreign troops must be withdrawn from the country, he added.
