Iran warns terrorist moves in Iraq threaten entire world

TEHRAN,July 10(MNA)– An Iranian Foreign Ministry official described the terrorist acts in Iraq as a threat to all countries and said it is necessary the international community join hands in the campaign against terrorism in the country. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in Kuwait. Amir-Abdollahian said Iran’s foreign policy toward Iraq centers around fostering national unity, protecting territorial integrity based on the country’s constitution. He stated that all countries should take actions in the fight against terrorism, adding Iran attaches great importance to security in all regional countries. Commenting on Iraq’s national unity and territorial integrity, the Kuwaiti official also warned that a disintegration of Iraq would be dangerous. Last Thursday, Massoud Barzani, the president of the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government, called for a referendum on separation of the region from Iraq. He also described exchange of views between Iran and Kuwait on regional issues, specifically Iraq, as important. Iraqi government forces are fighting with ISIL militants who have captured several areas in northern and western Iraq in an all-out offensive which began over three weeks ago. Iraqi forces have been able to retake some areas through carrying out special operations over the past few days. ‘No Iranian military forces martyred in Iraq’ In a press conference in Kuwait, Amir-Abdollahian rejected rumors that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces have been martyred in Iraq. No Iranian military official has been martyred inside Iraq, he stressed. Iranian and Omani officials meet The Iranian deputy foreign minister also met with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah in Muscat on Wednesday. Amir-Abdollahian said it is necessary to continue exchanging views among the regional countries for the purpose of maintaining regional security and stability. Commenting on the Iraqi crisis, he said the course of political developments and a fierce fight against terrorism are two key elements in ending the conflict in the country. For his part, the Omani foreign minister described Iraq as an influential country in the region, saying that all groups in Iraq should respect the country’s constitution. Amir-Abdollahian left for Tehran on Wednesday.
