Iranian Embassy dismisses claims Iran supporting Taliban

TEHRAN,Aug.4(MNA) – The Iranian Embassy in Ankara on Friday strongly dismissed the news report recently published by a Turkish daily claiming that Iran had allowed the Taliban to open an office in eastern Iran. The report had cited U.S. sources. In a statement, the Iranian Embassy wrote, “When the Taliban dominated Afghanistan, they martyred Iranian diplomats and reporters. U.S. efforts to negotiate with the Taliban are no secret. It has been years that the Americans have been making efforts to link Iran to terrorist groups with the aim of diverting attention (from the realities) and covering up their defeat in Afghanistan.” The embassy also said that Iran has been one of the most cooperative countries in the campaign against terrorism and dismissed claims of Iran’s provision of support for terrorist groups as a “great” and “ridiculous” lie.
