Iranian foreign minister visits Damascus

TEHRAN,May 8(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi arrived in the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday for talks with the country’s officials. Earlier in the day, Salehi visited Jordan and held talks with King Abdullah II, Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh about the two-year-old crisis in Syria. During his meetings in Jordan, Salehi emphasized that a political solution should be found to the crisis. He then left Amman for Damascus. Upon his arrival in the Syrian capital, Salehi was officially welcomed by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad, and a number of other Foreign Ministry officials. He was scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
