Iranians to stage protest against proposed Bahrain-Saudi union

TEHRAN, May 17 (MNA) – The Coordination Council of Islamic Propagation issued a statement on Wednesday inviting the Iranian people to take part in demonstrations on May 18 across the country to protest a proposal for the formation of a union between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Persian Gulf Arab leaders, at a summit in Riyadh on Monday, weighed the issue of establishing a closer political union that could begin with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. However, they failed to make any concrete decision on forming the union. “The great, brave, and insightful nation of Islamic Iran will rise this Friday across the country after the religious-political ritual of Friday prayers to protest against this mischievous American plan and will stage protest demonstrations to strongly condemn this conspiratorial plan and express their anger against and hatred toward the subservient regimes of Al Khalifa and Al Saud,” the statement said. “This dangerous plot, which is the product of the evil triangle of the global arrogance, (namely) the Unites States, Britain, and the Zionist regime, is meant to prevent the model of revolutionary uprisings from spreading from one country to other countries, control the situation and contain Bahrain’s internal crisis…, incite confrontation between Persian Gulf states, and create tension in the Middle East,” the statement read. It added, “The regimes of Al Khalifa and Al Saud should know that such unwise plots and measures could not contain the popular movement in Bahrain and the Islamic Awakening in the region, but this evil plot will further strengthen unity among the Bahraini people and other nations which have risen up.”
