Iran`s Foreign Ministry will implement Majlis decision regarding IAEA cooperation : Iranian official
TEHRAN, Nov. 23 (MNA) – During his weekly press briefing , Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast replied to a question asked by the correspondent for the Tehran Times about the Foreign Ministry’s view on the calls by a number of MPs that Tehran should review its ties with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and quit the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“We regard ourselves as a committed member of the IAEA. We have had the most cooperation with the agency. We think that the attitude and approach of the agency and the agency’s director general should help the agency’s member states to enjoy their rights… The agency should not become a tool in the hands of the Western countries. The agency should take a serious measure to protect the rights of its members… The Islamic Republic of Iran has fulfilled all its obligations based on its commitments. (But) if the agency makes extra demands, that will not be within the framework of our commitments. We have met our obligations based on our commitments to the NPT… No documented or authentic report has ever been published showing diversion in our peaceful nuclear (activities).
“Mr. Amano (International Atomic Energy Agency Director General )’s recent claim is just a claim. No document has been presented. This is nothing new. U.S. officials claimed that they have documents (implicating Iran)… due to their hostility toward us and the fact that we had reached an agreement with the agency and had cleared up and answered all their ambiguities and questions and they had to return Iran’s nuclear dossier to normal status. We think that the activities of the agency are deviating from their main path. Mr. Amano shoulders a great responsibility, but it seems that he cannot withstand the political pressure from the Western countries. Our decision has been and is to cooperate with the agency. However, if, for any reason, the (representatives of) the Majlis, who represent the people work out a plan and approve a legal ratification, we, as part of the government, are obliged to implement the legal ratifications of the Majlis.”
