Iran`s Khatami invited to run for president

TEHRAN,April 9(MNA) – The Council for Coordinating the Reforms Front has invited former reformist president Mohammad Khatami to stand as a candidate in the next presidential election, the rotating chairman of the council said on Monday. Commenting on the first meeting of the council in the new year, which started on March 21, Zhaleh Faramarzian told the Mehr News Agency that the council renewed the invitation to Khatami to run for president. She added, “We are still waiting for Khatami’s response. When he replies, we will make a decision based on his response because it is not morally correct that we, who have invited Khatami to participate in the election, discuss another option before his response.” “We hope he will accept it and take part in the contest,” she said. The next presidential election is scheduled to be held on June 14.
