Iran`s Zakani says he will focus on economic issues if elected president

TEHRAN,May 20(MNA) – Alireza Zakani said that his priority will be resolving the economic problems facing the country if he is elected president. “Priority in my plan is with economy, but cultural issues have also been taken into consideration,” Zakani stated during a press conference held at the Mehr News Agency on Sunday. He said that his plans had been designed based on Islamic principles and the guidelines set by the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, and the Supreme Leader. Elsewhere in his remarks, he stated that it would be in the principlists’ interests if they adopt more convergent policies ahead of the election. Iran’s 11th presidential election is scheduled to be held on June 14. Six hundred and eighty-six hopefuls have registered for the election, and the results of the vetting process will be announced on May 21. The presidential field is dominated by principlist hopefuls. According to the Constitution, the Guardian Council, a 12-member body consisting of six law experts and six religious jurists, is tasked with vetting candidates and supervising elections.
