Iraq Envoy : Baghdad Ready To Host Next Round Of Iran- G5+1 Talks

Tehran, Aug 15, IRNA – Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Mohammed Majeed al-Sheikh said on Tuesday that Baghdad is ready to host the next round of talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and G5+1.
Speaking to IRNA, he referred to the recent visit of Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili to Iraq, he said the trend of talks between Iran and G5+1 was among topics discussed between the two sides.
The previous round of talks between Iran and G5+1 was held in Moscow.
Iraq is a country of peace and reconciliation, he said, adding that Baghdad is willing to host the next round of talks between the two sides.
Baghdad did it utmost to ensure the success of the talks but certain countries were opposed to such progress and success, he said.
On Syrian developments, he said Baghdad is also ready to host next round of talks on Syria.
Baghdad believes that Syrian crisis should be resolved through peaceful means, he said.
Baghad is strongly opposed to any military interventions in Syria and believes that the Syrian people should make decision on their fate by implementing reforms plan, he said.
Iraq welcomes talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups and believes that democracy and people's vote should have the final say and weapons or conflicts have no room to this effect, said the Iraqi ambassador to Tehran.
Some Arab and western countries do not like Syria to play such a role in the region, he said.
They seek to topple the Syrian government and bring to power another regime willing to reconcile with the Zionists, he said./end
