IRNA Chief: IRNA Ready To Cooperate With UN To Promote Intl Peace, Solidarity

Tehran, Oct 8, IRNA – IRNA Managing-Director Mohammad Khoddadi said on Tuesday that the agency is ready for cooperation with the UN to bolster international peace and solidarity. Speaking to the UN Resident Coordinator in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Gary Lewis, Khoddadi said, “Our efforts in IRNA aim to make Iranian media society update and efficient.” He said IRNA is ready for cooperation with the UN in many fields, giving coverage to UN programs and arrange educational workshops as well as contributing to the projects of the international organization. “The UN is expected to prevent war and bloodshed in the world, preparing the ground for dialogue and understanding,” Khoddadi told the UN representative. He said that the United Nations would enjoy IRNA capacities to advance the common goals and areas of cooperation for sustainable development of the neighboring countries. The UN representative for his part said he was pleased with serving in Iran. Lewis, who has a record of service in Iran in the past during his career as the UN official said that the United Nations advocates human beings equal irrespective of their skin color or other considerations. We have the duty to work for introducing Iran and its culture and history.” He added that while submitting his credentials to Iran Foreign Minister he told him that the UN can help solve problems and IRNA can reflect the issue. “People should know what are the duties and activities of the UN and its subsidiaries and it should build more relations with the media."/end
