Islamic Revolution Paved Way For Iranˈs Independence: German Scholar

Berlin, Feb 10, IRNA - The biggest success of the 1979 Islamic Revolution was the fact that Iran gained real independence, a leading German expert on the Mideast said here Sunday. Talking to IRNA, the head of the Berlin-based Governance Center Middle East/North Africa at the HUMBOLDT-VIADRINA School of Governance, Udo Steinbach reiterated the ˈgreatest accomplishmentˈ of the revolution was that Iran became truly independent after two centuries of foreign interference, notably by the Russians, Brits and Americans. Iran is pursuing a policy in line with its interests as well as its cultural and religious characteristics, Steinbach said. Iran does not allow itself to be bullied around any longer and has made a gigantic step towards political emancipation and I view this ˈpositively,ˈ he added. Steinbach emphasized Iran was indeed an island of stability amidst a turbulent Mideast region and the huge turnout at the last presidential elections in the Islamic Republic only underscored his point./end
