Istanbul Talk, A Way To Keep Iran As Major Economic Partner: Indian Analyst

New Delhi, May 1, IRNA -- An Indian political analyst Monday termed Istanbul talk as a good beginning which gave EU an opportunity to get out of disadvantages of the sanctions against Iran. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Professor A. K. Pasha of Center for West Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, expressed his perceptions on Istanbul talk. In Istanbul talk Iran has used diplomatic option very wisely and gave European countries an opportunity to keep this dialog, he said. This continuation of dialogue was needed by EU as they are also not very keen to implement the sanctions which hurt them especially in the background of recession, Pasha added. He mentioned Iran as a major economic partner for EU, while Italy gets oil for about five refineries and Spain, Portugal and others need Iran’s oil. The professor of Center for West Asian Studies referred to the nuclear program as a pretext and said: It is not the real issue as the WMD of Saddam Hossein was not the real issue. The real issue is that they are looking for changing the regime and they have realized that it is not so easy to change the regime in Iran, because Iran has this solid back of the people and its nation is united. He underlined that the Istanbul Dialog has eased the atmosphere between the two groups and America and Obama also do not want any kind of situation which will disturb status of the world. He concluded by suggesting Iran to coordinate its policy with Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa and with other friends and use its diplomatic options to the maximum./end
