Jalili vows to adhere to revolution’s ideals if he wins presidency

TEHRAN,May 26(MNA) – Iranian presidential candidate Saeed Jalili said that he will remain faithful to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 if elected president next month. “Anyone who becomes the next Iranian president must continue on the path of the Islamic Revolution,” Jalili said during his first election campaign speech in Tehran on Friday. Quoting the late Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Jalili said, “We should make efforts to extend the influence of Islam across the world and limit the dominance of the hegemonic powers.” Jalili, who is currently the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and also a top nuclear negotiator, has chosen his campaign slogan as “resistance is the key to progress”. He added that if the people pursue the discourse of the Islamic Revolution and “unlock their potential” in all areas, they can achieve great victories in economy, industry, and politics. A number of MPs, including Hamid Rasaei and Mehdi Kouchak-Zadeh, and Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini were also present at the election rally. Ali Bagheri, Jalili’s election campaign director, also delivered a speech, saying that Jalili entered the presidential race as he felt a “sense of duty,” and called him Iran’s “winning card” to confront the enemies.
