Kofi Annan meets representatives of Syrian opposition in Ankara

ANKARA (A.A) - March 13, 2012 - UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan said on Tuesday that he was hopeful that a progress could be achieved in regard to Syria. Annan had a meeting with representatives of the Syrian opposition headed by Burhan Ghalioun, the chairman of the Syrian opposition Transitional National Council, in Ankara.  After the closed-door meeting, Annan told reporters that he informed representatives on his meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and told them that he was waiting a response from the Syrian administration today. "When we receive the response, we will know how we will react," he said. What was important was end of violence in Syria, he said. Syrian people had some demands and their demands should be met, he said, adding that the most important thing was interests of the Syrian people. Annan said that Syrian opposition representatives made a promise on "full cooperation".
