Kremlin says Russia is doing its utmost to help prevent bloodshed in Libya

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. Moscow is doing the best it can to help the parties to the Libyan conflict to prevent bloodshed and resolve the crisis by political means, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. "We have already said that Russia, of course, is doing the best it can to urge all parties to refrain from any actions that could provoke sanguinary hostilities and civilian deaths," he said. Currently, Libya has two governments: Tripoli’s Government of National Accord, led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and recognized by the international community, and the interim Cabinet led by Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thani, which operates in the country’s east along with the elected parliament and is supported by the Libyan National Army under the command of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. On April 4, Haftar announced the launch of an offensive on Tripoli. Meanwhile, Fayez al-Sarraj put all military units under his control on full combat alert ordering them to use force, if necessary, "to protect civilians and critical facilities." Read more
