Kuwait hopes Baghdad meeting will lead to recognition of Iran’s nuclear rights
TEHRAN, May 21 (MNA) - Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said that he hopes the next round of talks between Iran and the six major powers will lead to the recognition of Tehran’s nuclear rights.
The Kuwaiti emir made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Kuwait City on Sunday.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Salehi visited Kuwait on Sunday to deliver Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s invitation letter to the emir to participate in the 16th summit of heads of state and government of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran in late summer.
During his meeting with Salehi, the emir expressed hope that the negotiations between Tehran and world powers would be constructive, produce concrete results, and lead to the recognition of Iran’s nuclear rights.
Tehran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) held a new round of talks in Istanbul on April 14, breaking a 15-month hiatus in talks, and agreed to meet again in Baghdad on May 23.
Sabah also said that Iran will successfully host the summit and asked the Iranian foreign minister to convey his greetings to Iranian officials.
Commenting on relations between the two countries, he stated that Kuwait is keen to expand bilateral ties.
He went on to say that the problems facing the region can be resolved through cooperation between regional countries.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that certain plans that have been devised by outsiders for the region only complicate matters further and go against the sovereignty of regional countries.
Salehi also said meeting the legitimate demands of the people is the best solution to the problems that have surfaced in certain regional countries.
He returned home on Sunday.
