Larijani: Islamic States Should Help Regain Lost Status Of Islamic Civilization

Khartoum, Jan 22, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Monday that Islamic states should help regain the lost status of Islamic civilization. He made the remarks in the eighth general assembly meeting of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union in Khartoum. Iran believes that Islamic states by adopting a unified stand can take advantage of international developments to uphold their economic, political and cultural status around the globe, Larijani said. To attain the goal, all should strengthen the pillars of democracy in their countries, he said. Dictated democracy in the form of militarism leads to modern despotism, he said, adding that for this reason the Islamic Republic of Iran is opposed to military intervention in domestic affairs of other countries. Now that the Islamic awakening movement has created new capacity in dealing with bullying powers, some ignorant individuals are moving in line with the enemiesˈ wishful thinking, he said. Based on Islamic teachings, Iran is determined to promote unity worldwide and considers followers of all divine religions as its own brothers, he said. ˈIslam calls for good-neighborliness and we are not to fight other divine religions,ˈ he said. Violence and use of force are taking places in some Islamic countries such as Iraq, Pakistan and Syria by those claiming to be advocates of Islam but they actually serve the interests of the US and international Zionism, he said. Islamic parliaments inspired by Islamic awakening can take advantage of international developments to act as a source of inspiration in the world, he said. Global developments have put an end to the unipolar world and the globe is now moving towards multi-polar system, he said. Islamic states through unity and solidarity can turn into an influential pole to play their active role in global developments, he said. To attain the goal, the Islamic states should make use of one anotherˈs economic, political and cultural capabilities, Larijani said. Powerful presence of resistance forces in the struggle with Zionist troops help Muslim nations change global equations to their benefit and challenge the Zionist regime, he said. He also sharply criticized the wrong doings of terrorist groups that have created problems for Muslim communities and shattered their image among world nations. The Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union was established in June 17, 1999 with its head office being located in Tehran./end
