Lavrov, Jagland discuss CE possible role in Ukraine legislation reform

MOSCOW, May 6 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland discussed on Tuesday CE’s possible contribution to reform of Ukraine’s legislation, the ministry reports. The two officials met on the sidelines of a CE Committee of Ministers’ session. They discussed further steps to reform the Council of Europe and Russia’s participation in its activity, it said. “The minister gave high marks on the whole to the work done by Jagland and the Council Secretariat to prepare the first in the history of the organization report by the CE secretary general ‘on state of democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Europe’,” they added. “They also discussed a possible contribution of the Council of Europe to the strengthening of democratic stability in Europe and reform of Ukraine’s legislation in conformity with rules and standards of the Council of Europe,” the Foreign Ministry said.
