Maduro grateful to Putin for "support in Venezuela’s tough times"

MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the political and diplomatic support at their meeting on Moscow on Wednesday, while Putin pointed out that Venezuelan counterpart had succeeded in mending ties with his political opponents. "We can see that Venezuela is going through rough patches. There is an impression that you have managed to get in contact with opposing political forces," Putin said, recalling that he last met with Maduro a year before, but they had held regular phone talks since then. "We are still continuing to work, in the economy as well," Putin said. "Trade has diminished a little, but we view it as an objective factor. There are some positive moments, including our large projects." The Russian leader thanked Maduro for attending the Russian Energy Week. "We are delighted to see you and want to thank you for taking part in the international event," Putin said. "It is quite interesting for global economy’s representatives." "Thank you for your support, both political and diplomatic, in a rough patch we are going through," Maduro said for his part. "This visit has been timed luckily. It is time for revival and we embark on a new stage. Thank you very much for the grain agreement, as it has helped to ensure stable consumption in Venezuela." Read more
