Malaysian Supreme Commander visits Thailand

BANGKOK, Aug 30 (TNA) -- Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin expresses hope for closer cooperation with Thailand at all fronts particularly border security. Gen Zulkifli was on a visit to Thailand to attend the 35th Malaysia-Thailand High Level Committee (HLC) in Bangkok. He met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House on Wednesday. According to government spokesman Lt Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Gen Zulkifli told Gen Prayut that the two countries enjoyed strong relationship that beneficial for the region as a whole. Close bilateral and security relationship at higher level was the way forward to solve border issues and promote peace, Lt Gen Weerachon quoted Gen Zulkifli as saying. The HLC was established 35 years ago and has become an important platform for cooperation between the two neighboring countries on border issues. With progress in cooperation, Malaysia and Thailand could together achieve peace and order in the border areas that would result in vibrant economic activities for the benefits of the peoples of the two countries, Gen Zulkifli said. Gen Zulkifli and his Thai counterpart Gen Tanchaiyan Srisuwan co-hosted the HLC attended by high ranking officers from the armed forces, police and other security agencies of both sides. (TNA)
