Maldivian Prez Arrives In New Delhi

New Delhi, May 12, IRNA - Maldivian President Mohamed Waheed arrived in New Delhi Friday evening on a five-day official visit. Waheed, in his first foreign trip after assuming the Presidency of the country, is accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation. A host of issues to provide further impetus to bilateral relationship are on the agenda when Maldivian President hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil on Saturday. Besides Delhi, Waheed is also scheduled to visit Mumbai. Waheed, the then Vice President, had succeeded Nasheed as President who was ousted on February 7 after weeks of public protests following his action to arrest a judge. Nasheed claimed he was removed in a "coup" and his party has urged an independent investigation into the events of February 7./end
