Mehmanparast: US Mistreatment Of Iranian National, Unacceptable

Tehran, Aug 13, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast criticized the inhuman treatment of the US government of an Iranian national, Shahrzad Mir-Qolikhan, who was imprisoned for five years in US prisons.
Mehmanparast thanked Mir-Qolikhan for her exemplary resistance during her captivity in the US.
“Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned such behavior for several times and warned the Iranian nationals against the consequences of travelling to the US,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said in reaction to the detention of Mir-Qolikhan that was in line with the terror policy of the US government vis-à-vis Iranian citizens.
Emphasizing on the fact that detention and trial of Mir-Qolikhan was based on baseless accusations, Mehmanparast noted that the Foreign Ministry has always protested to the way Mir-Qolikhan was held in custody and the mental pressures exerted on her in different ways.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the US government as sole responsible for the ordeal of Mrs Mir-Qolikhan. IR Iran keeps the right of prosecuting the case of Mir-Qolikhan for her and the Iranian government,” he added.
Mehmanparast thanked the government of the Sultanate of Oman for her goodwill gesture and facilitating the return of Mrs. Mir-Qolikhan to Iran.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed regret over the negligence of the US officials to numerous demands by Iran for immediate release of Mir-Qolikhan on humanitarian grounds and said that it is a sign of US hostile attitude against the Iranian people.
Mehmanparast thanked some prominent international personalities and officials of the friendly countries for their mediation to secure the release of Mir-Qolikhan and other innocent prisoners held in the US.
“The Foreign Ministry will continue to its all-out efforts for freedom of innocent prisoners held in captivity in US prisons and improving their conditions,” he added./end
