MP: Convening Summit Of NAM Leaders Marks Big Success

Tehran, Aug 22, IRNA – A top Iranian lawmaker is pleased with the convening Summit of Leaders of Non-Aligned Movement in Tehran. “The NAM is the biggest world forum after the UN General Assembly accounted for more than two thirds of the world states as members. It’s a body having immense political and economic capacity for the member states,” Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi told IRNA. He said the US and its allies have used all within their potential to show Iran isolated in the diplomatic domain, endeavoring to downgrade importance of the Summit of Leaders. Boroujerdi made it clear that the West’s threats and destructive moves toward the Islamic Republic of Iran and the NAM have not served the US interests but rather jeopardized them. Boroujerdi said that currently the western governments have launched propaganda, hurling obstacles on the way of the NAM members willing to attend the Tehran Summit, so as to cover up failure of hegemonic power structure. Boroujerdi pointed to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and said NAM’s strong support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is one of the important capacities of the Movement. The NAM enjoys an immense structure, holding sessions at the level of heads of state or foreign ministers, and making key global decisions. “These all testify high potentials of NAM Movement.” It seems that NAM would in its upcoming meeting focus on such issues as disarmament, campaign against terrorism, situation in the Middle East region, including Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, human smuggling and immigration, according to Boroujerdi./end
