MP Rejects Salehi Summoning To Majlis For Meeting UK Counterpart

Tehran, June 23, IRNA – A parliamentarian here on Saturday rejected rumors that the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi was summoned to Majlis because of a meeting with his British counterpart. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who heads National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis, said Salehi was to attend the legislative body just to brief members of the commission on the performance of his ministry. He said the commission had extended similar invitations to ministers of information, defense and interior affairs as well. He explained that since Salehi is currently accompanying President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his Latin America tour and is going to another trip on Tuesday, he will probably attend the commission's session next week. Meanwhile, the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyyed Hossein Naqavi explained that his remarks on the visit of the foreign minister to the parliament were misinterpreted by the media and press. He said he had told the press that the commission would "consider" the issue of summoning the foreign minister to the parliament./end
