NACC seeks more information from Deputy PM on luxury watches
BANGKOK, Jan 25 (TNA) -- The anti-graft body seeks more information from Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan over his 25 pricey wrist watches as the pressure mounts on Prawit to resign.
Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Warawit Sukboon revealed Wednesday more watches had been exposed since Prawit’s last formal statement to the NACC, the commission now ordered him to provide more information.
Next week, a witness is due to testify with the NACC regarding the controversial unreported assets.
Gen Prawit has been under fire after netizens and media uncovered expensive watches using photographs of him at various occasions. Those watches are not on the list of assets that holders of political offices are required to report to the NACC.
Meanwhile, NACC president Pol Gen Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, who was a close aide to Gen Prawit, has recused himself from the investigation into the controversial watches.
Mr Warawit said the NACC president would step aside from the investigation to ensure transparency.
Gen Prawit faces fierce criticism after being photographed wearing many high-end timepieces. His accounts that the watches were borrowed from a friend were questioned and skepticism. (TNA)
