NAM potential should be used for settlement of intl. disputes: Iranian FM

TEHRAN,July 18(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that the great potential of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) should be utilized for the resolution of international disputes and the realization of equality for all nations.
Salehi made the remarks during NAM’s first international scientific conference which opened in Tehran on Tuesday.
Salehi said that after the United Nations, NAM is the largest international organization and can prepare the ground for the advancement of its member states’ objectives.
He also emphasized the necessity of establishing a permanent secretariat for the organization (NAM) and said if a permanent secretariat is founded, the bloc can increase its influence in the international stage.
Commenting on the main motto of the movement, which is “joint global management,” Salehi said now is the time to take the world management out of the monopoly of certain powers.
He added that in order to achieve the purpose, there is a need that the structure of the world management undergoes fundamental revision.
By taking a glance at the international developments which occurred over the past century, it can be seen that all problems of the world are caused by “lack of spirituality”, Salehi noted.
Commenting on the upcoming NAM summit, which will be held in Tehran in late August, Salehi said that the meeting will be held at a time when many developments have taken place in the region since the past two years.
Addressing the conference, Economy Minister Shamseddin Hosseini also said there is a great gap between each NAM member’s economic capacities.
Hosseini also said the NAM members should “collectively shout” to precipitate a change in the structure of the world management system.
