NAM Summit Document To Be Delivered To Ministerial Meeting Tuesday

Tehran, Aug 28, IRNA – Senior experts meetings of the XIV NAM Summit ended here Monday, and the summit document would be delivered to NAM foreign ministers on Tuesday.
The Foreign Ministry and XIV NAM Summit Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was speaking on the sidelines of the NAM Senior Experts Conference held at IRIB Conferences Center said, “The initial draft of the XIV NAM Summit document was inclusive of 688 articles in three chapters, which was surveyed by two committees of the summit, namely the political and the economic committees of the NAM Senior Experts.”
He added, “Relying on the existing mutual understanding and the management applied in the conference, the committees’ ratifications were received on Sunday and today, Monday, too, the Senior Experts were informed by the Secretary General of the Experts Conference of ratifications, which were confirmed by the entire senor experts, and thus the work of these experts came to its end.”
Mehmanparast pointed out that the Secretary General of the Senior Experts Conference would deliver the draft prepared by them to the NAM Foreign Ministers Conference, reiterating, “The presence of very high ranking delegations at the NAM Conference is all by itself very noticeable, and promises that we would be witnesses to greater activities of the NAM members in accordance with the initial founders of the movement in the framework of the proposed document.”
He reiterated, “On this basis, we hope reforms would take place in the process of the NAM activities so that from now on this movement would also support respecting the territorial integrity of the countries.”
Mehmanparst expressed hope, “The prepared document at the 16th conference after being confirmed by the heads of the NAM member countries would be turned into a document that would during the management of the Islamic Republic of Iran and relying on the participation of the entire member countries, lead to the manifestation of the entire demands of the NAM members.
He referred to the motto of the ongoing conference, “Sustainable Peace under the Umbrella of World Management” pointing out, “We hope this motto would be materialized. We have always been stressing the need for establishment of peace and justice at global level, and this would be achieved only based on public participation of all countries and ending the totalitarian tendencies of a few world powers.”
The Non-Aligned Movement, the rotating presidency of which was conferred to Iran on August 26, is a major international organization comprising 120 member states that represent the political, cultural, economic and social interests of the developing world.
The movement which is consisted of two third of the UN member states was established in 1961 in Belgrade and despite the fact that the majority of its members are developing nations, many of them play a defining and determining role in such strategic regions as the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.
Over the past weeks, Iranian President has been sending envoys to different NAM member countries to invite their heads of state and government to attend the forthcoming summit in Tehran.
The latest NAM summit was held in Egypt’s Sharm al-Sheikh from July 11-16, 2009 and Tehran will host representatives from 100 of the 120 countries in the forthcoming gathering./end
