NAM summit will boost Iran’s international status, Iranian FM says

SHARM Al-SHEIKH, May 9 (MNA) - Iran’s foreign minister said that the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement summit due to be held in Tehran later in the year will be the most significant of its kind in the country since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Ali Akbar Salehi has visited the resort town of Sharm al-Sheikh in Egypt to participate in the ministerial meeting of NAM countries. Upon arrival at the airport late on Tuesday, Salehi told reporters that the Sharm al-Sheikh meeting is a preparation for the main summit which will be held in the Iranian capital late in the summer, the Mehr News Agency correspondent reported. Salehi highlighted the significance of the NAM by saying that it is the second largest international organization after the United Nations. He concluded that Iran will boost its status in the international arena by holding this summit on its soil.
