Nasrallah says Mosul liberation 'historic', issues ultimatum to end terrorist peril in Arsal outskirts

NNA - Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday applauded the fresh liberation of Iraq's Mosul from Daesh grip as a "great victory," calling to seize this "historic opportunity" throughout the region and the world. "The liberation of Mosul is a very, very advanced and great step within the course of eradicating Daesh," Nasrallah said in a televised speech. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi yesterday declared victory over Daesh in Mosul, three years after the terrorist group took over the city. Indicating that the crisis has been tremendous for the Iraqis who feared strife, Nasrallah heaped praise on the Fatwa issued by Iraq's cleric Sayyed Ali Sistani, which unified the entire people of Iraq in the face of the enemy. Sayyed Sistani had urged all Iraqis to take up arms against Daesh, following the group's control of Mosul. "This [Fatwa] was a watershed and it paved the way for the successive victories," Nasrallah said, stressing that the people's response was immediate, whereas they quickly lined up in paramilitary troops joining the Iraqi forces in their battle against Daesh. "The Popular Mobilization Forces have become part of the Iraqi's armed forces," he underlined. Moreover, Nasrallah hailed the unity among all Iraqis, regardless of their religious and political beliefs, "for they have conclusively decided to confront and to determine their own future." "This victory is not just for the Iraqis, but also for the people of the region and elsewhere in the world, who are jeopardized by terrorism and who are fighting it," he said. "The region is before a historic chance that has been provided by the sacrifices of the Iraqis and the Syrians, and those who stood by them," he indicated. Turning to Lebanon, Nasrallah maintained that the terrorist peril was still present in the outskirts of Arsal, issuing an ultimatum to end this problem. "There is a real problem in the outskirts of Arsal. Some suicide bombers come from there; the bombs and threats are still there," he warned. "This is the last time that I will be talking about this issue," he said. "We are convinced that it is time to end this threat, and we believe that this is the last chance." "Little time is still left in order to reach certain solutions," he said, calling to seize this opportunity. On the return of the displaced Syrians to their country, Nasrallah called for talks among the various parties to reach an agreement, highlighting the necessity to communicate with the Syrian government in that respect. Furthermore, Nasrallah renewed support for the current government, calling for activating its works. "Unlike what some are circulating, we do support the continuity of this government, and we call for preserving and activating it," he underlined.
