Nepal Assures Not To Allow Anti-India Activity On Its Soil

New Delhi, Jan 18, IRNA -- Nepal Tuesday assured India that it would not allow any anti-India activity on its soil and promised to provide all necessary cooperation and assistance to deal with terrorism and other security issues. 'The Nepalese government has assured India that it will not allow its territory to be used for activities inimical to India's interest,' a Home Ministry statement said after the two-day Home Secretary-level talks between India and Nepal which ended here Tuesday. New Delhi also assured Kathmandu of its commitment to provide all necessary cooperation and assistance in security matters. The Indian delegation was led by Home Secretary R K Singh while the Nepalese delegation was led by his counterpart Sushil Jung Bahadur Rana. Both sides discussed wide ranging issues like countering terrorist activities, curbing cross-border crimes, circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes, smuggling of arms and ammunition, trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances, the statement said. Misuse of SIM Cards, sharing of information and intelligence reports on a real time basis, progress in establishment of Integrated Check Posts and border roads and India's support to training and capacity building of Nepal’s security apparatus were also discussed threadbare. New Delhi will also help Kathmandu in modernizing immigration facilities at the Tribhuvan International Airport in the Nepal capital for smooth transit of passengers to and from the Himalayan country. The meeting was held in a cordial environment and both the countries expressed their satisfaction on the outcome of the issues deliberated during the meeting and hoped it will go a long way in addressing mutual security concerns, enhancing cooperation and friendly relations, the statement said./end
